Catholicism and strict gender roles have played a huge part in how I viewed not only myself but the world around me. Growing up in Southern Louisiana, I have been expected to adhere to these doctrines quite strictly. Not living according to expectations brought about an unbearable pressure to perform and think in ways which made me uncomfortable. I was taught that deviating from these ideals would lead me to a life of sin and regret. However, I have discovered the opposite to be true - Placing my blind faith into these predetermined structures constricted me, broke me down, and spat me out.

My work primarily focuses on questioning the prescribed ways of being in a cisheteronormative society, particularly through the lens of Catholicism. The subjects depicted struggle with what is expected of them and what it is they truly want for themselves. There is always a choice they must face: recognize these pre-established structures as truths or defy them all to lead a more fulfilling and happier life.
